SYTYCD7 - CHILAXing

So You Think You Can Dance - Auditions: Los Angeles and Chicago - Ep. 702
Judges: Nigel Lythgoe, Adam Shankman, Hi Hat, Stacey Tookey

As always, I have no time for the crap auditions so I'll only note the good stuff. Cause isn't that what we are here for in the end?

I also won't be around for Thursdays episode and will lump it with next week (Vegas week already), but in the meantime, for my fellow Torontonians, the very first ballet I saw, West Side Story Suite is being brought back by the National Ballet of Canada this Friday for two weekends (my original review here). If you've never seen the ballet, AND you like SYTYCD (and if you're reading this, I'm assuming you do), then go check it out! It's a great intro and with Jerome Robbins legendary choreography, what's not to love? You might realize that modern ballet is much closer to the cool Mia Michaels contemporary stuff than the old boring tutu's you may have stereotyped!

Los Angeles Auditions:
Judges: Nigel Lythgoe, Adam Shankman, Hi Hat

Lauren Froderman, 18, Pheoniz AZ
She's definitely springy and stretchy but maybe it's the song choice of Marvin Gaye's "Let's Get It On", but it seemed a bit too stripperish for me. Adam didn't think it was lurid or creepy. She gets a ticket to Vegas. Vegas, land of strippers. Just sayin'.

Rachel Girma, 18, Los Angeles, CA
A rhythmic gymnast who only has been "dancing" for two weeks and I felt she had more musicality than Lauren from above AND had tons of tricks. And she made it look hot without looking like a stripper. Just sayin'. She kind of reminds me of a female Neil Haskell.

Cristina Santana, 24, San Diego, CA
Pepe Alvarez, 30 San Diego, CA
Cristina was the girl that smacked Billy Bell last year in Vegas and ultimately didn't make it to the Top 20. She's a hot little tamale! Still, she smacked Billy Bell! Okay, I know that was an accident. She's very cute and makes it to Vegas. Pepe goes to choreo. Pepe who?

Taylor Costello, 18, Glendale, CA
Oooh, I like her. Maybe it's her big hair that flies around but there's a cool hotness to her. Kind of reminds me of Mimi from Rent. Kind of crazy and out of control, which Nigel warned her that she might need to reign in a bit. Her biological mom was SHOT? And murdered? She goes to choreo.

Choreography with Courtney Galiano and Jason Glover (Day 1)
Taylor doesn't make the cut. There's an Asian guy in blue who is seen briefly that looks hot.

Alexie Agdeppa, 26, Rowland Heights, CA
Made it close last year but not quite. She's a cute little pixie when she dances.

There's the typical montage of good dancers that we only briefly see and I can't be bothered to catch the names.

Melinda Sullivan, 22, Thousand Oaks, CA
Tap dancer. i love the idea of a tap dancer getting into the Top 20, and I still say Bianca was cut too early last year, but Melinda seemed to have picked the wrong song to tap dance too. It was both impressive yet odd and boring. I'm surprised Nigel actually agreed.

Ryan Ramirez, 18, Morgan Hill, CA
The blonde whose family had money troubles, then Mia picked her out at a convention... blah blah. something like that. Judges loved her dancing and technique but critiqued her connection to the audience.

Choreography with Courtney Galiano and Jason Glover (Day 2)
Melinda and Ryan both move on.
So at this point, no good boy has been featured yet today. We just get glimpses.

Chicago Auditions:
Judges: Nigel Lythgoe, Adam Shankman, Stacey Tookey

Kent Boyd, 18, Wapokeneta, OH
Small town boy. So adorable! His dancing kind of reminds me of Jakob Karr. Which means I may love him already. Add an adorably small town boy big city dreams personality and I think he has SOOO much potential. I agree that he needs to add some of that personality into his dancing and I almost wish he were 2 years more mature before he auditioned, but we got to keep our eye on this one!

Andrew Phillips, 18, indianapolis, MN
Fraternal twin has Spinesomethingsomethinghorriblysadcondition. I wish I liked his dancing more because he has a sweet/sob story and a cute haircut but I think a few more years would do some benefit (if I'm going to say this nicely). He almost reminds me of Cory Monteith when he dances on Glee (which, um, isn't a good thing). He goes to choreo.

Adrian Lee, 20, San Diego, CA
At first I thought this might be another joke audition but then he starts spinning his tall body and we start seeing the long lines and I can sigh with relief since he's so cute and we won't have to cut him.

Choregography (Day 1)
Kent goes through, but surprisingly, Andrew does really well too.

Jarrod Mayo
The song is goes "so amazing, so amazing". I think he needs to unify his routine a bit more but there are nice tricks everywhere and surprising fluidity to his moves. Amazing.

Jarrell Robinson, 25, Greenwood, IL
Not the most amazing breaking but some pretty cool moves onto the beat, made even more amazing by the fact that he's deaf. Then you kind of realize how amazing it must be to hit the beat all the time like that.

Choreography (Day 2)
Christopher Gilbert, the geeky tall lanky black guy gets cut.

Thursdays episode: Dallas and Nashville auditions and the start of Vegas week.
